# Add an Allowed IP Address

Cloud Voice enforces security rules that can automatically block suspicious traffic. If a source you trust risks being caught by those rules, add its IP (Internet Protocol) address or domain to the allowlist. Any entry on the allowlist is always permitted to reach the system.

## Add an entry to the allowlist

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice web portal and go to **Security > Security Rules > Allowed IPs**, then click **Add**.
2. In the **Name** field, give the rule a label you will recognize later.
3. (Optional) Use the **Description** field to record why the rule exists or any other detail worth noting.
4. Open the **Type** drop-down and pick how you want to identify the trusted source:
   - **IP Address**: enter the address in the **IP Address** field.
   - **Domain**: enter the domain in the **Domain** field.

   :::note
   Choose **IP Address** when the trusted source connects from a fixed, known address. Choose **Domain** when the source is identified by a hostname instead of a single address.
   :::
5. Click **Save**.

## Result

Once saved, Cloud Voice always accepts connections from the IP address or domain you allowed, regardless of the other security rules in place.

:::caution
An allowlist entry bypasses the automatic blocking that protects your system. Only add sources you fully trust, and keep the list as short as possible.
