# Add an Emergency Notification Contact

Whenever someone on your phone system places an emergency call, Cloud Voice can automatically alert the people you designate, letting them know which extension dialed which emergency number. This helps on-site staff respond quickly and account for whoever placed the call. Follow the steps below to add a contact that receives these alerts.

## Procedure

1. Sign in to the PBX (Private Branch Exchange, the platform that runs your phone system) web portal and navigate to **Call Control > Emergency Number > Notification Contacts**.
2. Click **Add**.
3. Open the **Notification Contact** field and choose who should be alerted:

   - **Specific Extension**: Alert one particular extension, such as a front-desk receptionist. Pick the extension from the **Specific Extension** drop-down list.
   - **The Extension Group Manager of the Extension who dialed the emergency number**: Alert whoever manages the extension group that the calling extension belongs to.
   - **Specific Group Manager**: Alert the manager of a group you choose. Select that group from the **Specific Group Manager** drop-down list.
   - **Custom**: Alert someone outside the phone system. Type their name in the **Contact Name** field.

4. Open the **Notification Method** field and choose how the alert is delivered:

   - **Send Email**: Cloud Voice emails the contact. See [Configure Emergency Notification Email](/pbx/administrator-guide/configure-emergency-notification-email/) to review or customize the message.

     :::caution
     This is an emergency alert, so a message that never arrives defeats the purpose. Before you rely on email delivery:
     - Confirm the [Email Server](/pbx/administrator-guide/email-server-overview/) is configured correctly, otherwise Cloud Voice cannot send the notification.
     - If the contact is an extension user, confirm that a valid email address is tied to their extension.
     :::

   - **Call Mobile**: Cloud Voice dials the contact's mobile number and plays an announcement. See [Configure Emergency Notification Prompt](/pbx/administrator-guide/configure-emergency-notification-prompt/) to review or customize what the contact hears.

     :::caution
     The call connects only if the [Prefix](/pbx/administrator-guide/outbound-dial-pattern/#topic_p2b_hfg_2mb__section_gwj_bjc_fmb) matches your outbound route rule. If it does not match, the notification call fails and the contact is never reached.
     :::

   - **Call Extension**: Cloud Voice dials the contact's extension and plays an announcement. See [Configure Emergency Notification Prompt](/pbx/administrator-guide/configure-emergency-notification-prompt/) to review or customize what the contact hears.

5. Click **Save**.

:::tip
Repeat this procedure to add more than one notification contact. Each contact uses its own delivery method, so you can email one person and place a call to another for the same emergency event.
