# Allow Users to Override Time Condition by Feature Code

Out of the box, no extension is allowed to change the system's time condition from a phone. If you want specific users to be able to flip business hours, holiday status, or a custom time period on demand, you grant them that permission for the relevant feature codes. A feature code is a short star code (for example, `*99`) that a user dials from their extension to trigger a system function. This page walks through enabling those overrides.

:::caution
Overriding a time condition changes call routing immediately for every inbound route tied to that condition, not just for the person who dials the code. Grant this permission only to trusted staff so calls are not accidentally sent to the wrong destination (for example, daytime calls landing in after-hours voicemail).
:::

## Grant override permission

1. Sign in to the web portal and open **Call Features > Feature Code**.
2. Scroll to the **Switch Business Hours and Holidays Status** section and set who is allowed to use each override, as described below.

   | Setting | Feature code | Permission |
   |---------|--------------|------------|
   | **Switch Business Hours and Holidays Status**: for business hours defined in the system's default time zone | `*99` | Choose the extensions that may use the code |
   | **Time Condition Switching Prefix**: for custom business hours and custom time periods based on the system's default time zone | Codes beginning with `*8` | Choose the extensions that may use the code |

   :::note
   The `*99` code covers only the system's default time zone. If you run additional time zones, look up the feature code assigned to each one under **Call Control > Business Hours and Holidays**.
   :::

   :::note
   A `*8`-prefixed feature code is generated automatically for every inbound route that is tied to custom business hours or a custom time period.
   :::

3. Click **Save**, then **Apply** to activate the changes.
