# Change System Prompt

System prompts are the built-in voice messages Cloud Voice plays to callers and users, for example the greetings and status announcements the system generates automatically. Each online prompt pack is a complete set of these recordings. To change which set the system uses, you download one of the available packs and mark it as the default.

## Set a new default system prompt

1. Sign in to the PBX web portal and open **PBX Settings > Voice Prompt > System Prompt**.

   :::note
   PBX (Private Branch Exchange) is the phone system that routes calls for your account, and the web portal is its browser-based admin console. The **System Prompt** page lives under **PBX Settings > Voice Prompt**.
   :::

2. Download the prompt pack you want to use:
   1. Click **Download Online Prompts**. The **Download Online Prompts** page lists every system prompt available for download.

      :::note
      These packs are pulled from an online library, so the phone system needs internet access for this page to load and for downloads to finish.
      :::

   2. Locate the prompt you want and click the download icon ![Download icon](/images/pbx/download.png).
   3. Click the close icon ![Close icon](/images/pbx/close-window.png) to dismiss the window. The prompt you downloaded now appears in the **System Prompt** list.

   :::tip
   You can download several packs and keep them all in the **System Prompt** list. Only the one marked in the **Default** column is played, so downloading a pack does not change anything on its own.
   :::

3. In the **Default** column, select the prompt you just downloaded to make it the default.
4. Click **Save**, then **Apply**.

   :::caution
   The change is not live until you click **Apply**. Clicking **Save** on its own stores your selection but keeps the old prompt in use, so a junior tech who stops at **Save** will not hear any difference.
   :::

The selected prompt takes effect and the system begins using it for its built-in announcements.
