# Customize Email Templates

When an event with notifications turned on is set to alert contacts by email, Cloud Voice builds each message from a matching template and sends it automatically. This page shows you how to choose the language those emails are sent in and how to rewrite an individual template's subject and content.

## How email templates are organized

Templates are grouped by the kind of event that triggers them:

- **Operations**: password changes and login status.
- **Telephony**: SIP (Session Initiation Protocol, the standard that carries voice calls) trunk registration and emergency calls.
- **System**: system health, for example a newly detected firmware release or a completed upgrade.
- **Security**: events such as a blocked web login or auto defense activity.
- **Event Reminder**: reminders tied to your subscribed plan and services.
- **Email**: notifications relating to extensions.

## Set the notification language

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and go to **System > Email > Email Templates**.
2. Click **Notification Email Language**.
3. In the window that opens, pick a language from the drop-down list.
4. Click **Save**.

From this point on, notification emails go out in the language you selected.

:::note
If the language you want is not in the list, leave the language set to **English** and edit the individual templates to match your needs.
:::

## Edit a template

1. On the **Email Templates** list, find the template you want to change and click the edit icon ![Edit](/images/pbx/edit.png) next to it.
2. In the **Template** drop-down, choose **Custom**.
3. Adjust the email subject and body to suit your requirements.

   :::caution
   Templates are text only. Images, video, and audio cannot be added.
   :::
4. Click **Save**, then **Apply**.

   :::note
   **Save** stores your edits, but they do not go live until you click **Apply**. If new emails still arrive in the old wording, check that you completed the **Apply** step.
