# Flip an Active Call by Dialing a Feature Code

When one extension is registered on more than one device, you can hand an ongoing call off from the device you are using to any of your other devices without hanging up. Dialing the Call Flip feature code rings your remaining devices so you can pick the conversation back up wherever is more convenient, for example moving a call from your desk phone to the Cloud Voice App on your mobile as you walk away from your desk.

:::note[What is a feature code?]
A feature code is a short code you dial (usually starting with `*`) that tells the phone system to perform an action instead of placing a normal call. `*01` is the built-in code for Call Flip. An administrator can change this code under the system's Feature Code settings, so confirm the code your system actually uses before relying on `*01`.
:::

## Before you start

- Your Cloud Voice system must be on version 84.8.0.25 or later.
- The same extension must be registered on at least two devices (for example a desk phone plus the Cloud Voice App). If the extension is registered on only one device, no other device can ring and the flip will not work.

## Flip the call

1. While the call is connected, dial the Call Flip feature code. The default code is `*01`.

   Every other device where the extension is registered rings at the same time.

2. Answer on whichever device you want to continue the call.

:::caution
Do not hang up the original call to flip it. The call stays live on your current device while your other devices ring; the handoff only completes when you answer on one of them. Ending the current call cancels the flip.
:::

:::tip
Because every device on the extension rings, answer on the device you intend to keep using as soon as it rings. Whichever device picks up first wins the call.
:::

## Result

The call moves to the device you answered on, and the rest of your devices stop ringing.
