# Join a Conference Call

Anyone can take part in a Cloud Voice conference call, whether they hold an extension on your phone system or are calling in from outside. How you enter the room depends on the role you want to hold once you are inside. This page covers both routes: joining as a regular participant and joining as a moderator.

## Join as a participant

1. Dial the conference room number.
2. When prompted for a participant password, enter it. The room asks for one only if the administrator has set a participant password.

:::note
If you are the first person to reach the room, you hear [hold music](/pbx/administrator-guide/set-up-a-custom-moh-playlist/) until another caller joins.

## Join as a moderator

There are two ways to enter a conference with moderator privileges.

### If the administrator named you as a moderator

Simply dial the conference room number. Because your extension is already listed as a moderator for the room, you join with moderator rights automatically, with no extra password to enter.

### If you want to claim moderator rights on the way in

Even if you are not a designated moderator, you can still take a moderator role when the room has a moderator password configured:

:::note
The moderator password is an optional setting the administrator applies per conference room, separate from the participant password. If no moderator password has been set, this route is unavailable, and the only way into the room with moderator rights is to be named as a moderator by the administrator.
:::

1. Dial the conference room number.
2. Enter the moderator password.

:::note
As with any other role, if you are the first to arrive you hear [hold music](/pbx/administrator-guide/set-up-a-custom-moh-playlist/) while you wait for others to join.
