# Delete CDR

Call detail records (CDRs) log the activity of every call your phone system handles. When you no longer need certain entries, you can remove them by hand instead of waiting for automatic cleanup.

:::note
Starting with version 84.21.0.117, Cloud Voice records new call data in an updated CDR structure that shows call details more clearly and completely. Records created before the upgrade are held separately and phased out over time according to your **CDR Auto Cleanup** schedule. Until that happens, the two data sets live on different tabs: **CDR (Advanced)** for records generated on 84.21.0.117 and later, and **CDR (Legacy)** for older records.

The steps below cover the newer records. To remove legacy entries, do the same from the **CDR (Legacy)** tab instead.
:::

## Delete call records

1. Sign in to the management portal and go to **Reports and Recordings > CDR**.
2. Open the **CDR (Advanced)** tab.

3. Optionally, apply filters to narrow the list to the records you want.
4. Select the checkbox beside each call record you want to remove, click **Delete**, and confirm.

   :::caution
   By default, deleting a record also deletes its linked recording file, so double-check your selection before you confirm. To keep recordings when you delete a record, first go to **Call Features > Recording** and set **Delete the recording file when deleting the CDR** to **Not linked**.

## Result

The records you selected, along with their related call data such as call legs and timeline details, are removed.

:::note
Two kinds of associated data are handled by their own rules:

- **Call recordings**: Whether a record's recording file is deleted depends on the recording setting described above.
- **Call reports**: Report data tied to the records is kept and is only removed later under its own schedule, set at **System > Storage > Auto Cleanup > Call Reports Auto Cleanup**.
