# Manage Extension Groups

An extension group is a saved set of extensions that you manage together. After you create a group, you can change its members and settings at any time, or delete groups that are no longer in use. Both tasks start from the same page in the management portal (the PBX, or Private Branch Exchange, web interface).

Changes here are staged until you click **Apply**. **Save** records a change on its form, but nothing goes live on the phone system until you **Apply**. You can make several edits first and then Apply once.

## Edit an extension group

Use this when you need to rename a group, change which extensions belong to it, or update any of its other settings.

1. Sign in to the management portal and open **Extension and Trunk > Extension Group**.
2. Find the group you want to change and click the edit icon ![Edit](/images/pbx/edit.png) next to it.
3. Adjust the group's settings as needed.
4. Click **Save**, then **Apply** to activate your changes.

:::tip
If you only need to change who belongs to a group, edit the existing group instead of deleting it and building a new one. Editing keeps the group's other settings intact.

## Delete extension groups

Use this when a group is no longer needed. You can remove one group at a time or several at once.

1. Sign in to the management portal and open **Extension and Trunk > Extension Group**.
2. To remove a single group:
   1. Click the delete icon ![Delete](/images/pbx/delete.png) next to the group.
   2. Confirm by clicking **OK** in the dialog box that appears.
   3. Click **Apply**.
3. To remove several groups at once:
   1. Select the checkbox for each group you want to delete, then click **Delete**.
   2. Confirm by clicking **OK** in the dialog box that appears.
   3. Click **Apply**.

Deletion takes effect as soon as you click **Apply**, and the only way back is to recreate the group and re-add its members. When deleting in bulk, double-check which checkboxes are selected before you click **Delete**, because every selected group is removed at once.

After you Apply, the deleted groups drop off the **Extension Group** list and no longer appear in the Cloud Voice App.
