# Manage Extension Visibility Rules

An extension visibility rule controls which extensions (the internal numbers assigned to users or devices) a person can see in their directory and therefore dial. Once you have created these rules, you can adjust them as your organization changes or remove ones you no longer need. This page covers how to edit an existing rule and how to delete rules individually or in bulk.

## Edit a rule

Edit a rule when you need to change who can see or call a set of extensions, for example after moving staff between teams or opening up a department that was previously hidden.

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and open **Extension and Trunk > Client Permission > Extension Visibility**.
2. Find the rule you want to change and click the edit icon ![Edit](/images/pbx/edit.png) next to it.
3. Make your changes to the rule.
4. Click **Save**.

Editing a rule takes effect for the affected users, so an extension that becomes hidden will no longer appear in their directory or be reachable by them. Confirm the rule still allows the calling paths those users depend on before you save.

## Delete rules

:::caution
Deleting rules affects who users are allowed to call. Because a user cannot dial an extension that is hidden from them, removing every visibility rule blocks all internal calling. Review your rules carefully before deleting them.

:::tip
If you only want to loosen or narrow visibility for a group, edit the existing rule instead of deleting it. Editing avoids the risk of leaving extensions with no rule at all, which is what breaks internal calling.

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and open **Extension and Trunk > Client Permission > Extension Visibility**.
2. To remove a single rule:
   1. Click the delete icon ![Delete](/images/pbx/delete.png) next to the rule.
   2. Click **OK** in the confirmation window.
3. To remove several rules at once:
   1. Select the checkbox for each rule you want to remove, then click **Delete**.
   2. Click **OK** in the confirmation window.
