# Manage Outbound Call Frequency Restriction Rules

Once you have created Outbound Call Frequency Restriction rules, you can adjust their settings as your calling patterns change or clear out rules you no longer need. This page covers both tasks.

:::note
An Outbound Call Frequency Restriction rule caps how many outbound calls a matching source (such as an extension or trunk) is allowed to place within a set time window. It is a security control that defends against toll fraud, the abuse where an attacker uses a compromised account to place large volumes of expensive calls at your expense. You manage these rules under **Security > Security Rules > Outbound Call Frequency Restriction** in the Cloud Voice management portal.
:::

## Edit a rule

Edit a rule when a threshold is too strict and blocking legitimate calls, or too loose to catch abuse.

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and navigate to **Security > Security Rules > Outbound Call Frequency Restriction**.
2. Locate the rule you want to change and click the edit icon ![Edit](/images/pbx/edit.png) next to it.
3. Adjust the rule settings to match your requirements.
4. Click **Save**, then **Apply** to put the changes into effect.

:::tip
If a rule is blocking calls it should not, loosen its limit instead of deleting it. Editing keeps the protection in place while you tune the numbers.
:::

:::caution
Two things are easy to miss when editing:

- Changes are not live until you click **Apply**. Clicking **Save** alone stores the rule but leaves the old behavior running.
- A limit set too low will block legitimate outbound calls for everyone the rule matches. Raise thresholds in small steps and confirm normal calling still works.
:::

## Delete rules

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and navigate to **Security > Security Rules > Outbound Call Frequency Restriction**.
2. Remove one or more rules, depending on what you need:
   - **Single rule:** Click the delete icon ![Delete](/images/pbx/delete.png) beside the rule, then confirm with **OK**.
   - **Multiple rules:** Select the checkbox for each rule you want to remove, click **Delete**, then confirm with **OK**.

:::danger
Deleting a rule removes the outbound call limit it enforced. If no other rule covers the same source, that extension or trunk can place unlimited outbound calls, which reopens the door to toll fraud and unexpected charges. Confirm the protection is no longer needed (or replaced by another rule) before you delete, and prefer editing over deleting when you only need to change a threshold.
