# Manually Switch Extension Presence

As an administrator you can set an extension's presence status yourself from the Cloud Voice management portal (the web interface for your PBX, or Private Branch Exchange, which is the hosted phone system), instead of waiting for the extension user to change it or for an automatic schedule to switch it. Set it on someone's behalf when, for example, they have left for the day without updating their status, or you need to place them in Do Not Disturb during a meeting.

## Change the presence status

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and go to **Extension and Trunk > Extension**.
2. In the extension list, locate the extension you want to update.
3. In the **Presence** column for that extension, open the drop-down list and choose the status you want to apply.

   The drop-down lists the presence statuses configured for your system. Out of the box there are six: Available, Away, Business Trip, Do Not Disturb, Lunch Break, and Off Work. Your organization may have customized this list.

   :::caution
   Each status applies its own call-handling rules (call forwarding, ring strategy, ring timeout, and so on), and the change takes effect the moment you apply it. In particular, switching a user to Do Not Disturb blocks every incoming call to that extension immediately, so their phone will not ring until you move them off that status.

4. Click any empty area of the page to confirm the selection.

   Clicking a blank space closes the drop-down and locks in your choice. The change is not saved to the system until you click **Apply** in the next step.

5. Click **Apply**.

## Result

The extension's new presence is pushed to its Cloud Voice App sessions, and any [presence settings](/pbx/administrator-guide/extension-presence-overview/#extension-presence-overview__ul_qgh_rn2_lmb) tied to the selected status take effect.
