# Remove IP Phones/Gateways from Provisioning List

Auto provisioning is the feature that automatically pushes configuration to your desk phones and gateways so you do not have to set each device up by hand. The provisioning list keeps an entry for every phone and gateway Cloud Voice has discovered on the network. When a device is retired or no longer in service, remove its entry by hand so the extension and settings it was holding are freed for reuse.

In this context an IP (Internet Protocol) phone is a handset that connects over your data network, and a gateway is the box that bridges older analog or ISDN lines into Cloud Voice.

:::note
The provisioning list shows every device the system discovers, not only the ones you set up on purpose. Because of this, a device that is still powered on and connected can be discovered again and reappear in the list after you delete it. Only remove entries for devices that are genuinely out of use, or physically disconnect the device first.
:::

## Remove phones from the provisioning list

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and open **Auto Provisioning > Phones**.
2. Delete the entries you want to clear:
   - For a single phone, point at the ![More options](/images/pbx/more.png) icon on that row and choose **Delete**.
   - For several phones at once, tick the checkbox next to each one, then click **Delete**.
3. Confirm with **OK**.

:::tip
Ticking the checkboxes and deleting in one pass is much faster than removing phones one at a time when you are clearing out a batch of retired handsets.
:::

:::caution
Deleting a phone is more than hiding it from the list. Cloud Voice erases every configuration file tied to the phone and releases the extension that was assigned to it. The handset loses its saved settings, so if you ever put it back into service it will have to be provisioned again from scratch.
:::

Once removed, Cloud Voice deletes all configuration files tied to the phone and releases the extension that was assigned to it.

## Remove gateways from the provisioning list

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and open **Auto Provisioning > Gateways**.
2. Delete the entries you want to clear:
   - For a single gateway, click the ![Delete](/images/pbx/delete.png) icon on that row.
   - For several gateways at once, tick the checkbox next to each one, then click **Delete**.
3. Confirm with **OK**.

:::note
Unlike the phones list, a gateway row has its own **Delete** icon that you click directly, so there is no menu to open first for a single removal.
:::

Once removed, Cloud Voice deletes all configuration files tied to the gateway and releases the extension that was assigned to it.
