# Fully Exit the Desktop App When Closing the Main Window

When you close the main window of the Cloud Voice App Desktop, the window disappears but the app keeps running in the background. This is the default behavior, and it is what lets you continue to receive incoming calls, messages, and notifications even when the window is out of sight. If you would rather have the app quit entirely when you close the window, you can turn on a setting that does exactly that.

:::note
This setting applies only to the Cloud Voice App Desktop for Windows. It is not available on macOS or the mobile app.
:::

To make the app quit whenever you close the main window:

1. In the Windows system tray (the row of small icons next to the clock, at the bottom-right of the screen), right-click the Cloud Voice App icon and choose **Settings**.

2. Under the **System** section, turn on the **Exit program when main window closed** checkbox.

:::caution
Once this is enabled, closing the main window fully quits the app. While the app is closed you will no longer receive incoming calls, messages, or notifications until you launch it again. Only turn this on for someone who does not need to stay reachable in the background.
:::

:::tip
If the user still wants to receive calls but keep the window out of the way, leave this setting off (the default). Closing the window then just hides the app to the system tray, where it keeps running and stays reachable.
:::

From now on, closing the main window will shut the app down completely rather than leaving it active in the tray.
