# Place a Call Using Your Mobile Line (Mobile App)

The Cloud Voice App normally places calls over the internet using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). The **Dial through Mobile** option does something different: it hands the call to your phone's own cellular line, so your mobile carrier connects it. This is handy when your data or Wi-Fi signal is weak but you still need to reach a contact saved in your directory.

:::tip[When this helps]
Reach for this option when internet coverage is poor. With a good data or Wi-Fi connection, place calls the normal way so they use your Cloud Voice number and account instead of your carrier.
:::

To dial an external number over your mobile line:

1. In the Cloud Voice App, open **Directory** and find the contact you want to reach.

   :::note
   **Dial through Mobile** appears only for external numbers (numbers outside your organization). A colleague's internal extension is always reached over the internet, not the cellular line.

2. Press and hold the call icon ![Dial-out icon beside a contact's phone number](/images/pbx/call-out.png) next to an external number, then choose **Dial through Mobile**.

3. Confirm to place the call. Your phone dials the number over its cellular connection.

:::caution[The recipient sees your personal number]
Because the call goes out over your carrier, the person you call sees your personal mobile number as the caller ID (the number shown on their phone), not your Cloud Voice extension or business number. The call is also billed to your personal mobile plan, not your Cloud Voice account.
