# Why can

If your iPhone silently misses the first incoming call, shows no missed-call alert for it, and then rings normally on every call after that, the culprit is almost always iOS **Focus** mode. When Focus is active it suppresses notifications from apps you haven't explicitly allowed, which stops the Cloud Voice App from waking your device for that first call.

:::note
Focus is Apple's umbrella feature for filtering notifications. It includes **Do Not Disturb** and any custom modes you have set up, such as Sleep, Work, Personal, or Driving. This behavior comes from iOS itself, not from the Cloud Voice App, so the fix is made in the iPhone's **Settings**.
:::

You have two ways to fix this: permit the Cloud Voice App to notify you while Focus is on, or turn Focus off entirely.

## Allow the Cloud Voice App to notify you during Focus

Keep Focus mode enabled but add the Cloud Voice App to its list of allowed apps. This lets Focus keep silencing everything else while still letting calls through.

:::tip
This is the recommended fix. The user keeps the benefit of Focus mode (a quieter phone) and still receives every call.
:::

1. Open **Settings > Focus** and tap the Focus mode you use.
2. Tap the **Apps** pane.

3. On the notifications page, choose **Allow Notifications From**, then tap the add button (![Add button](/images/pbx/add.png)) and select the Cloud Voice App.

:::caution
These allow settings apply only to the one Focus mode you are editing. If the user switches between several Focus modes (for example Sleep at night and Work during the day), repeat these steps for each mode they use, or calls will still be missed whenever a mode without the Cloud Voice App is active.
:::

## Turn off Focus mode

If you'd rather disable Focus completely, switch it off from Control Center.

1. Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
2. Tap the **Focus** button to toggle it off.

:::tip
When the Focus button isn't highlighted, Focus mode is already off.
