# Configure Cloud Voice App Login Mode

When someone signs in to the Cloud Voice App by hand, they need a username that identifies their extension. You control which identifiers the phone system will accept: an extension number, an email address, or both. Set this to match how your team prefers to log in, so people are not blocked at the sign-in screen.

This setting applies to manual sign-in only (typing a username and password). It does not change automatic sign-in methods such as welcome-email links or QR codes.

## Before you begin

Your PBX (Private Branch Exchange, the phone system that routes your calls) must be running firmware version 84.23.0.23 or later. On earlier firmware the login mode settings are not available.

## Available login modes

- **Extension Number**: the user types the extension number assigned to them.
- **Email Address**: the user types the email address tied to their extension.

You can enable either mode on its own or turn on both. With both enabled, each user picks whichever credential is easier for them to remember.

:::note
The email address option only works for a user whose extension already has an email address on file. If an extension has no email associated with it, that person must sign in with their extension number.
:::

## Set the login mode

1. Sign in to the PBX web portal and go to **Extension and Trunk > Extension**.
2. Above the extension list, click **Cloud Voice App Server**.

   :::note
   The **Cloud Voice App Server** panel holds server-wide settings. The login mode you choose here applies to every extension, not to one user.
   :::

3. Find the **Cloud Voice App Login Mode** section and select the checkbox for each mode you want to allow.

   :::caution
   Keep at least one mode enabled. If you clear the checkbox for a mode that people are currently using, they will no longer be able to sign in with that identifier and may be locked out until you re-enable it.
   :::

4. Click **Save**.
