# Enable or Disable Cloud Voice App Clients for a User

A user can only sign in to the Cloud Voice App once the relevant clients are enabled on their extension (the internal phone account assigned to that user). Use the steps below to turn clients on or off per user whenever access needs to change, for example when someone joins the team, switches devices, or leaves.

:::note
There can be more than one Cloud Voice App client (for example a web client and a desktop or mobile client), and each one has its own switch. Enabling or disabling a client for one user does not affect any other user or any other client.
:::

## Enable clients for a user

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and open **Extension and Trunk > Extension**.
2. Locate the extension you want to update and click the edit icon ![Edit an extension](/images/pbx/edit.png) next to it.
3. Open the **Cloud Voice App Clients** tab.
4. Switch on each client you want to make available.
5. Click **Save**, then **Apply**.

:::caution
Your changes are not live until you click **Apply**. Clicking **Save** on its own only stores the settings, so the client will not actually work for the user until the **Apply** step finishes.
:::

Once enabled, the user can sign in to any of those clients using their Cloud Voice App login credentials.

:::tip
Enabling a client does not automatically hand the user a way in. They still need their login credentials, so plan to send those separately (see the next step).
:::

### Next steps

- [Set up User Permissions of Cloud Voice App Clients](/pbx/cloud-voice-app-server-admin-guide/set-up-user-permissions-of-cloud-voice-app-clients/) to define which menus and settings the user can reach.
- [Send Cloud Voice App Client Login Credentials to Users](/pbx/cloud-voice-app-server-admin-guide/send-cloud-voice-app-client-login-credentials-to-users/) so they have what they need to sign in.

## Disable clients for a user

4. Switch off each client you want to withdraw.
5. Click **Save**, then **Apply**.

:::caution
Disabling a client cuts off that user's access to it. After you apply the change they can no longer sign in to that client, and it stops working for a session they already have open. Confirm you are editing the correct extension before you switch anything off.
:::

Any client you turn off can no longer be signed in to or used by that user, while any client you leave enabled keeps working as normal.
