# Audio Conference Call Operations

Once an audio conference is under way, the actions you can take depend on your role. The host runs the meeting and can manage everyone on the call, while participants have a smaller set of self-service controls.

## What hosts and participants can do

The table below shows which operations are available to each role during a live audio conference.

| Operation | Host | Participant |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Mute or unmute your own audio | Yes | Yes |
| Mute or unmute other participants | Yes | No |
| Record the conference | Yes | No |
| End the conference for everyone | Yes | No |
| Leave the conference | Yes | Yes |
| View the participant list `*` | Yes | Yes |
| Invite participants `*` | Yes | Yes |
| Remove participants | Yes | No |

:::note
Operations marked with `*` are available only in the Cloud Voice App on desktop and web, and in Cloud Voice for Google. They are not supported on the mobile app.

## Manage an in-progress conference

Everything you need to run the meeting lives in the conference window.

### Window shortcuts

Use the icons in the top corner to change how the window is displayed:

- ![Zoom-out icon](/images/pbx/window.png), Shrink the call window down to a compact view.
- ![Full-screen icon](/images/pbx/full-screen.png), Expand the conference to full screen.

### Participant area

The main area of the window shows the audio feed for everyone on the call. If you are the host, hover over a participant to manage them:

- ![Mute participant icon](/images/pbx/mute.png), Mute or unmute that participant.
- ![Remove participant icon](/images/pbx/phone-end.png), Drop a participant from the conference, or cancel an invitation that is still ringing.

:::tip
A participant's microphone status stays in sync across the Cloud Voice App on mobile, desktop, and web, as well as Cloud Voice for Google, so the mute state you see matches what they see.

### Toolbar

The toolbar along the bottom of the window holds the call controls:

- **New Call**: Start another call without hanging up. You can be on two calls at once; placing or answering a second call automatically puts the conference on hold.
- **Add Participant**: Bring more people into the conference.
- **Mute**: Mute or unmute yourself.
- **Hold/Resume**: Put yourself on hold or rejoin the audio.
- **Dialpad**: Open the keypad to send DTMF tones (DTMF stands for Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency, the beeps a phone makes when you press a key, used to navigate automated menus or enter conference PINs).
- **Record**: Start or stop recording the conference.
- **End Call**: Leave the conference, or end it for everyone if you are the host.

:::note
Only the authorized host can control recording during the call and view or manage the recording file afterward. If the host leaves a conference while it is being recorded, recording stops.
:::

:::note
Only the host can end the conference for everyone. Participants can leave, but the call continues for the others.
