# Configure AI Call Transcription

AI Call Transcription converts a two-party conversation into readable text as the call happens, then produces a summary once the call wraps up. The transcript captures the dialogue, highlights key points, and pulls out any to-do items, so you can review a call without listening to the recording. Use the steps below to turn on and tailor the feature in the Cloud Voice App on your desktop.

:::note
Whatever you set here also applies to your other Cloud Voice App clients, your preferences follow your account.
:::

## Before you begin

Confirm the following are in place:

**PBX server** (PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange, the phone system that hosts your extension)

- The server firmware is version `84.20.0.74` or newer.
- Your administrator has switched on Call Transcription for your extension.

**Cloud Voice App (Desktop)**

- Your desktop app is version 1.15.3 or newer.

:::caution
Both the firmware requirement and the administrator switch must be met. If the server firmware is older than `84.20.0.74`, or your extension has not been enabled for Call Transcription, the settings below will not take effect (and may not appear at all). Confirm both before you troubleshoot the app.
:::

## Turn on and configure transcription

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice App, then open **Preferences > AI**.
2. Under **Call Transcription**, adjust the settings to suit how you work.

   | Setting | What it does |
   | --- | --- |
   | Automatic Call Transcription | Transcribes every call in real time without any action from you. Leave it off if you would rather start transcription by hand for individual calls from the call screen, see [Transcribe a Call](/pbx/desktop-client-user-guide/transcribe-a-call/). |
   | Show Transcription Text After the Call | Pops open the transcript and summary automatically once the call ends. |
   | Language | Sets the language used to transcribe your calls. |

   :::tip
   Pick the language that will actually be spoken on your calls. The transcription is most accurate when the selected language matches the conversation.
   :::

   :::note
   Whether a summary is generated and shown automatically also depends on how your administrator has configured the PBX server.
   :::
3. Click **Save**.

## What you get

- Call audio is recognized and transcribed in your chosen language while the call is in progress, and a summary is produced automatically after the call ends.
- The AI-generated transcript and summary for each transcribed call are available in your call logs.
