# Configure Language Preferences for Your Extension

Your extension can use different languages for the automated messages it sends and plays. This page shows how to choose the language for the emails the system sends you, the prompts you hear during calls, and the voicemail prompts callers hear when they reach your mailbox.

## Requirements

Your phone system must be running firmware version 84.19.0.70 or later.

## Set your language preferences

1. Open the Cloud Voice App on your desktop and go to **Preferences > User**.
2. Under **Language**, adjust any of the following settings. Each setting applies only to your own extension and is independent of the others, so you can mix languages (for example, English email but Spanish voicemail prompts).
   - **Notification Email Language**: The language used in email notifications the system sends to you.

     :::note
     Choosing **Follow System** applies whatever email language is set globally for the phone system.
     :::
   - **System Prompt Language**: The language of the system prompts you hear while on a call.
   - **Voicemail Language**: The language of the prompts a caller hears when they reach your extension's voicemail.

     :::note
     If you have [recorded a custom greeting](/pbx/desktop-client-user-guide/customize-your-voicemail-settings/#topic_jym_dnk_vwb__greeting), callers hear that greeting instead and this language setting is ignored.
     :::
3. Click **Save**.
