# Hold and Resume a Call

Placing a call on hold lets you step away from a conversation temporarily without ending it. When you return, resuming the call reconnects both parties right where you left off.

## Put a call on hold

During an active call, click ![Hold control](/images/pbx/hold.png) (**Hold**) on the call screen.

While the call is held, the other person can no longer hear or speak to you. Depending on how your system administrator has set things up, they may hear hold music in the meantime.

You can keep up to 6 calls on hold at once.

## Resume a held call

Click ![Hold control](/images/pbx/hold.png) (**Hold**) again to take the call off hold. You and the other party can talk normally again.

There is no separate Resume button. The Hold control is a toggle: the same button puts the call on hold and later brings it back.
