# Log Out of the Desktop App

Logging out ends your current session on the Cloud Voice App desktop client. You would do this when you finish a shift, hand the computer to someone else, or need to sign in under a different extension. It is a normal, safe action: nothing is deleted, and you can sign back in at any time with your account credentials.

## Sign out

1. In the upper-right corner of the desktop client, select your account (your name or avatar).
2. In the menu that appears, choose **Log out**.

:::note
The account control sits at the very top-right of the window. Selecting it opens a drop-down menu that includes account settings and the **Log out** option.
:::

:::caution
Once you log out, the desktop client stops receiving calls, chat messages, and notifications on this computer. Incoming calls follow your extension's normal routing (for example, voicemail or another device) until you sign back in. If you are on call duty, do not log out unless another device or destination is set to catch your calls.
:::

:::tip
If you only need to step away for a short time, minimize or close the window instead of logging out. The client keeps running in the background and continues to receive calls and messages, so you do not have to sign in again when you return.
