# Upgrade the Cloud Voice App Desktop Client

Keeping the desktop client current means you get the newest features and fixes. Whenever a newer release becomes available, the Cloud Voice App desktop client shows a notification that summarizes what has changed. You can apply the update right away, or dismiss the prompt and install it whenever it suits you. If you dismissed the prompt, use the steps below to upgrade the client on your own schedule.

You do not have to wait for the automatic notification. Checking manually (the steps below) pulls the newest release on demand, so it is the reliable way to confirm you are up to date.

1. Open the client menu for your operating system.

   - **Windows**: Right-click the Cloud Voice App icon in the system tray (the row of small icons near the clock, at the far right of the taskbar).

   - **macOS**: In the app menu bar (the bar at the very top of the screen, next to the Apple logo), click **Cloud Voice App**.

   :::tip
   If the icon is hidden on Windows, click the small upward arrow (**Show hidden icons**) in the system tray to reveal it, then right-click the Cloud Voice App icon.
   :::

2. Choose **About** from the menu.

3. In the window that opens, click **Check for updates**.

   A panel appears listing the highlights of the newest release.

   :::note
   The **About** window also shows the version you are currently running. Note it down before you upgrade so you can confirm afterward that the version number changed, and so you have it ready if you need to report an issue to support.

4. Click **Update Now**.

   The client downloads the new installation package.

5. Run the downloaded installer.

   Once installation finishes, your Cloud Voice App desktop client is up to date.

   :::caution
   Installing the update closes the running client so the new version can replace it. Any call in progress will end when the client closes, so wrap up or transfer active calls before you run the installer.

   :::note
   Your operating system may ask you to confirm the installation or enter an administrator password before the update can complete. If you do not have those rights on the machine, ask whoever manages it to approve the install.
