# Disable Microsoft SQL Integration

When you need to stop syncing contacts from your Microsoft SQL database, you can switch the integration off in Cloud Voice. SQL (Structured Query Language) is the language used to read and write records in the Microsoft SQL database, and this integration uses it to pull contact records into your directory. Turning the integration off pauses that connection but keeps your saved settings, so you can resume later without re-entering anything.

:::note
Disabling is a pause, not a removal. Use it when you want contact syncing to stop for a while (for example, during database maintenance) but plan to turn it back on later. If you want to remove the connection entirely, delete the integration instead.
:::

## Turn off the integration

1. Open the Microsoft SQL settings:
   1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice management portal and go to **Contacts > Company Contacts**.
   2. Select **Synchronize Contacts** near the top of the page.

2. Switch off **Enable Microsoft SQL Integration**.

   :::caution
   Once the integration is off, contacts stop syncing. Your directory will no longer receive new or updated records from the Microsoft SQL database until you enable it again.
   :::
3. Select **Save**.

   :::tip
   Your configuration is not erased when you disable the integration, so you do not need to write down the server address, credentials, or field mappings before turning it off.
   :::

## What happens next

- The **Status** field changes to **Disabled**.
- Your Microsoft SQL configuration stays in place. The next time you enable the integration, it reconnects with the same settings, so there is no need to set it up again.
