# Microsoft Outlook Integration Overview

Connecting the Cloud Voice desktop app to Outlook for Windows lets you work your contacts and your phone from a single window. Once the two are linked, you can dial any Outlook contact straight from Outlook, and Cloud Voice handles the call in the background.

## What you need

Before setting up the integration, confirm that your environment meets the following minimums.

:::note
This integration is Windows only. It works with Outlook for Windows and the Windows build of the Cloud Voice desktop app. There is no equivalent for macOS.
:::

**Microsoft Outlook**

- Application: Outlook for Windows
- Version: Outlook 2016 or newer
- Operating system: Windows 10 or Windows 11

**Cloud Voice desktop app**

- Edition: Cloud Voice App for Windows
- Version: 1.0.19 or later

**Phone system**

- Server firmware: 84.10.0.30 or later

:::caution
All three components must meet their minimum versions, not just one. If Outlook, the Cloud Voice app, or the phone system firmware is below the version listed above, the integration will not work. Check every item before you start.
:::

## What the integration does

Pairing Cloud Voice with Outlook unlocks four everyday conveniences.

**Dial from Outlook**

Start a call to any Outlook contact directly from Outlook. The Cloud Voice desktop app places the call for you.

**Incoming call popup**

When an Outlook contact calls you, their profile opens automatically in Outlook so you know who's on the line before you answer.

:::note
The popup can only match a caller to a name if the contact already exists in your phone system and app. First [synchronize your Outlook contacts to the phone system and your Cloud Voice apps](/pbx/integrations/azure-ad/synchronize-microsoft-outlook-contacts-to-cloud-voice-cloud-voice/). Until you do, the app shows the incoming number only, with no contact name.
:::

**Automatic call logging**

Every call you finish with an Outlook contact is recorded to Outlook as a journal entry, with no manual note-taking required.

**New contact prompt**

If you call or receive a call from a number that doesn't match any existing Outlook contact, Outlook opens a new-contact form so you can save the caller on the spot.

## How to set it up

You enable the integration from within the Cloud Voice desktop app by connecting it to Outlook for Windows. Open the app's Outlook integration settings and follow the prompts to authorize and link the two applications.
