# Auto Provision a Poly IP Phone

Auto provisioning lets Cloud Voice push a phone's configuration to it from the server, so you never touch the handset's local menus. This page walks through provisioning a Poly IP phone, using a Poly VVX_450 (firmware 6.4.6.2494) as the working example. The same steps apply to the other supported Poly models.

## Supported models and firmware

Before you begin, confirm that both the phone and Cloud Voice are running a compatible firmware version.

:::caution
These versions are minimums. If either the phone or Cloud Voice is running an older release, update it first. Auto provisioning is not supported below the versions shown, so the phone may fail to download its configuration or register its extension.
:::

## Before you start

- Make sure the default auto provisioning template for your phone model has been downloaded. You'll find the templates under **Auto Provisioning > Resource Repository > Default Templates**.
- If the phone was used previously, factory-reset it first.
- Have the phone's details on hand: vendor, model, and MAC (Media Access Control) address. The MAC address is a unique hardware ID printed on the label on the back of the phone.

:::caution
A factory reset erases every setting already on the phone, including any local account and network configuration. A phone that was provisioned elsewhere may also still point at its old provisioning server, so resetting it is what clears that link and lets Cloud Voice take over.
:::

## Provision the phone

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice web portal and go to **Auto Provisioning > Phones**.
2. Click **Add > Add**.
3. In the **IP Phone** section, fill in the phone's details.

   - **Vendor**: Choose **Poly**.
   - **Model**: Pick your phone model. This example uses **VVX_450**.
   - **MAC Address**: Type the phone's MAC address.

   :::caution
   Enter the MAC address exactly as it appears on the phone. Cloud Voice matches the configuration to this address, so a single wrong character means the phone will never receive its settings.
   :::

4. In the **Option** section, set the following.

   - **Template**: Select a template from the drop-down list.

     :::note
     You can use the default template that matches your phone model, or build your own custom auto provisioning template.
     :::

   - **Provisioning Link**: This link is created for you automatically. It points to where the phone's configuration file lives on the server.

5. In the **Assign Extension** section, assign an extension to the phone.

   :::tip
   If the extension you want isn't in the drop-down list, it's already tied to another IP phone. You have two ways to free it up:

   - Release the extension from the phone it's currently associated with.
   - Enable concurrent registration for that extension, which lets it register on more than one device. By default, Cloud Voice permits an extension to register with only one SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) endpoint.
   :::

6. Click **Save**. Cloud Voice raises a **RPS Request Success** event notification.

   :::note
   RPS stands for Redirection and Provisioning Service, the cloud redirection server that tells a phone where to fetch its configuration. A **RPS Request Success** message confirms the phone's MAC address was registered with that service, so the phone can find its provisioning link the next time it starts up.
   :::

7. Reboot the IP phone manually. On restart the phone contacts the redirection service, downloads its configuration file, and registers the extension.

## Result

- The phone pulls its configuration from Cloud Voice and applies the settings on its own.
- The extension registers successfully on the phone. To confirm, check the registration status under **Auto Provisioning > Phones** in the web portal.
