# Add a Company Contact

Company contacts are stored on the server and kept in sync across every copy of your Cloud Voice App. Once you save a contact to a company phonebook, it becomes available to any colleague who has access to that phonebook. This page covers the four ways to create a company contact from the mobile app.

:::caution
Company contacts are shared, not private. Anyone who has access to the phonebook can see the name and number you save and can call it. Do not add personal or sensitive numbers you would not want colleagues to see. Use Personal Contacts for those instead.
:::

## Before you begin

Your system administrator must have granted you permission to manage company contacts, or at least the specific phonebooks you want to add contacts to. Without that permission, the options described below will not appear.

:::note
A phonebook is a named group of company contacts (for example, "Sales" or "Support"). Your administrator creates the phonebooks and decides which ones you can add to, so you will only see the phonebooks you have been granted access to.

## Ways to add a company contact

You can build a company contact from scratch or promote an existing entry:

- [Add a company contact from your personal contacts](#add-a-company-contact-from-your-personal-contacts)
- [Add a company contact from your phone contacts](#add-a-company-contact-from-your-phone-contacts)
- [Add a company contact from your call history](#add-a-company-contact-from-your-call-history)

## Add a new contact from the Contacts page

When there is no existing record for a person, enter their details by hand and save them straight to the Company Contacts directory.

1. In the Cloud Voice App, go to **Directory > Contacts**, then tap the add-contact icon ![Add contact](/images/pbx/person-add.png) in the top-right corner.
2. On the **New Contact** page, do the following:
   1. Fill in the contact's details.
   2. Under **Add to**, choose **Company Contacts**, then pick the phonebook(s) that should hold the contact.
   3. Optional: Use the **Remark** field to add a short note about the contact.
   4. Tap the save option in the top-right corner.

:::tip
You can select more than one phonebook under **Add to**. The same contact is then saved to every phonebook you choose, so you do not have to add it separately for each team.
:::

## Add a company contact from your personal contacts

If someone already exists in your personal contacts, you can promote them to the Company Contacts directory so the rest of your team can use the entry too.

![Promoting a personal contact to the company directory](/images/pbx/mobile-client-add-company-from-personal.png)

1. In the Cloud Voice App, go to **Directory > Contacts**.
2. Tap the selector in the top-left corner and choose **Personal Contacts**.
3. Tap the contact you want to promote.
4. On the **Contact Details** page, tap **Add to Company Contacts**, then select the phonebook where the contact should live. A confirmation reading "Added successfully" tells you the personal contact is now in the Company Contacts directory.

## Add a company contact from your phone contacts

If you have given the Cloud Voice App permission to read the native contacts on your phone, you can copy one of those contacts directly into the Company Contacts directory.

:::note
Native contacts are the contacts saved on the phone itself (in iOS or Android), separate from the Cloud Voice App. If the **Directory > Phone** tab is empty, the app has not been granted permission to read them; grant contacts access in your phone's system settings.

1. In the Cloud Voice App, go to **Directory > Phone**.
2. Tap the contact you want to add.
3. On the **Contact Details** page, tap **Add to Contacts**.
4. On the **New Contact** page, do the following:
   1. Adjust the contact details and remark if needed.
   2. Under **Add to**, choose **Company Contacts**, then pick the phonebook(s) that should hold the contact.
   3. Optional: Use the **Remark** field to add a short note about the contact.
   4. Tap the save option in the top-right corner.

## Add a company contact from your call history

You can turn an unrecognized number in your call history into a company contact without leaving the call log.

1. In the Cloud Voice App, go to **Calls > Call Logs**, then tap the details icon ![Call details](/images/pbx/information.png) next to the entry you want.
2. On the **Call History Details** page, tap the add icon ![Add](/images/pbx/add.png).
3. In the pop-up, tap **Add to Contacts**, then choose whether to create a new contact or update an existing one.

   :::note
   If you tap **Add to Phone** instead, the number is saved to the native contacts on your phone rather than to a company phonebook.
   :::

   To save it as a brand-new company contact:

   1. Tap **New Contact**.
   2. Fill in the contact's details.
   3. Under **Add to**, choose **Company Contacts**, then pick the phonebook(s) that should hold the contact.
   4. Optional: Use the **Remark** field to add a short note about the contact.
   5. Tap the save option in the top-right corner.

   To merge it into an existing company contact:

   1. Tap **Add to Existing Contact**.
   2. On the **Add to Contact** page, use the selector in the top-left corner to choose **Company Contacts** or the phonebook where the contact is stored.
   3. Tap the company contact you want to update.
   4. On the **Edit** page, revise the contact's details and remark as needed.
   5. Tap the save option in the top-right corner. The contact's information is updated with the number from the call.
