# Change Group Chat Name

When you start a group chat, the Cloud Voice App labels it with the names of everyone in the conversation. That default title works, but it gets hard to scan once a group has several members. Giving the chat a custom name (for example, "Support Team" or "Q3 Rollout") makes it easy to spot in your chat list and tells everyone what the conversation is about.

:::note
Internal Chat is the messaging area for people on your own phone system, as opposed to external SMS/MMS conversations. You reach it from the **Chat** tab in the Cloud Voice App.
:::

## Rename a group chat

1. In the Cloud Voice App on your mobile device, open **Chat**, then select **Internal Chat**.
2. Open the group chat you want to rename, then tap the more-options icon ![More options](/images/pbx/more-horiz.png) in the top-right corner.
3. On the **Chat Information** page, tap **Group Name**.
4. Type the new name, then save your change.

:::tip
Keep the name short and specific so it stays readable in the chat list and is obvious to every member. A clear subject beats a long list of names.
:::

## What members see

The chat takes on its new title right away. Everyone in the group also gets a message in the conversation letting them know you renamed it.

:::caution
Renaming changes the title for the whole group, not just your own view, and the change is announced to all members. This is not a private label, so pick a name you are comfortable with everyone seeing.
