# Hold and Resume a Call

Sometimes you need a moment mid-call, to check a detail, grab a colleague, or step away. Putting the call on hold pauses the conversation for both sides without hanging up, and resuming brings it right back when you return.

The same **Hold** control does both jobs: the first tap holds the call, the second tap resumes it. The call stays connected the whole time, so nobody is disconnected.

## Put a call on hold

While a call is connected, tap ![Hold control](/images/pbx/hold.png) (**Hold**) on the call screen.

The other person is now on hold and cannot hear or speak with you.

:::note
Holding a call is not the same as hanging up. The line stays open and the call timer keeps running. Tap **Hold** again (see below) to bring the other person back.
:::

:::tip
Whether the caller hears silence or hold music while they wait is controlled by your system administrator, not by the app. If your callers should hear music (or a marketing message), ask your administrator to enable it on the system.
:::

## Resume the call

When you are ready to continue, tap ![Hold control](/images/pbx/hold.png) (**Hold**) a second time.

The call reconnects and you can talk with each other again.

:::caution
Do not leave a caller on hold and forget about them. Because the call is still connected, the other side stays on hold (hearing silence or music) until you resume, transfer, or end the call.
