# Leave a Group Chat

When you no longer need to take part in an internal group conversation, you can remove yourself from it directly in the Cloud Voice App on your phone. Leaving a group stops it from adding to your unread messages and notifications, while still letting you read what was already said. The steps below walk through leaving a group and explain what changes afterward.

## Leave a group

:::note
**Internal Chat** is the messaging area for conversations between people on the same Cloud Voice phone system (your colleagues), as opposed to SMS or MMS texts with outside numbers. Any group conversations you belong to appear in this list.
:::

1. In the Cloud Voice App, open **Chat** and switch to **Internal Chat**.
2. Open the group conversation you want to leave, then tap the more options icon ![More options](/images/pbx/more-horiz.png) in the top-right corner of the chat.
3. On the **Chat Information** page, tap **Leave Group**.
4. A confirmation prompt appears. Tap **OK** to leave the group.

:::caution
Tapping **OK** takes effect immediately and removes you from the group. From that point on you will not receive any new messages the group sends. Make sure you no longer need updates from this conversation before you confirm.
:::

:::tip
If the conversation holds anything you might need later (a phone number, an address, an attachment), save or note it before you leave. Once you are out of the group you can still read the old messages, but you cannot ask the group for anything new.
:::

## What happens after you leave

Once you leave:

- The group's earlier messages stay visible, so you can still look back over the conversation history.
- You can no longer post messages to the group.
- Any new messages the group sends after you leave will not reach you.
