# Hang up a Call

From the Operator Panel you can terminate a call at any time, whether it is your own conversation or an active call belonging to a member of your extension group.

## When to use this

Ending another party's call is handy during a conference call. If you need to remove someone from the conference, hanging up their call drops that participant from the conversation immediately.

:::note
The steps below work the same way whether you are ending your own call or a group member's call. The only difference is that ending someone else's call requires an extra permission (see below).
:::

## Before you begin

To end an active call for a member of your extension group, your account needs the **Pick up or hang up other extensions' calls** permission. Ending your own calls requires no special permission.

:::caution
Without the **Pick up or hang up other extensions' calls** permission, the **Hang Up** option acts only on your own calls. If you expect to disconnect other extensions but cannot, ask your administrator to grant this permission.
:::

## Hang up a call

1. Open either the **Inbound & Internal Calls** panel or the **Outbound Calls** panel, then move your pointer over the call you want to end.

   :::note
   The **Inbound & Internal Calls** panel lists calls coming into the system and calls between internal extensions. The **Outbound Calls** panel lists calls placed out to external numbers. Hovering over a call reveals its controls.
   :::

2. Right-click the call and choose **Hang Up**.

   :::caution
   Hanging up disconnects the call the moment you confirm, and the other party gets no warning. During a conference this removes that person from the conversation, so double-check you have selected the correct call before continuing.
   :::

3. Confirm by clicking **OK** in the dialog that appears.

The system ends the call right away.

:::danger
Never hang up a call that is connected to emergency services (such as 911). Cutting off an active emergency call could leave someone unable to reach help.
