# Leave a voicemail message

The Operator Panel is the call-handling console inside the Cloud Voice App, used by receptionists and operators to see who is on a call and to route calls quickly. From this panel you can record a message and deliver it straight to a mailbox, without waiting for the person to pick up. You can address the message to a single extension user (one internal person's phone line) or to a voicemail group (a shared mailbox that several people can check).

:::note
The message goes directly to the mailbox. It does not ring the person's phone or interrupt them, so it is a good way to pass along information when you do not need to talk live.
:::

:::tip
Decide what you want to say before you start. The call window begins the recording as soon as it connects, so a few seconds of planning keeps the message clear and short.
:::

## Send a voicemail to an extension user

1. In the **Extension** panel, move your pointer over the extension user you want to reach.
2. Right-click the user and choose **Leave a Voicemail**. A call window opens where you can speak your message.
3. Hang up when you have finished recording.

   :::note
   Hanging up ends the recording and saves it to that user's mailbox. To fix a mistake, record and leave another voicemail the same way.

## Send a voicemail to a voicemail group

A voicemail group is a single shared mailbox tied to more than one extension, so any member of the group can listen to the message. Use this when the note should reach a team (for example, sales or support) rather than one person.

1. In the **Group Voicemail** panel, move your pointer over the group you want to reach.
2. Right-click the group and choose **Leave a Voicemail**. A call window opens where you can speak your message.
3. Hang up when you have finished recording.

   :::note
   The message lands in the shared group mailbox, so treat it as something every member of the group may hear.
