# Configure Extension Display

An extension is the internal phone identity (a short internal number) assigned to a user or device on the phone system. An extension is "registered" when a phone or the Cloud Voice App has logged in and connected to it, which means it is ready to make and receive calls. An "unregistered" extension exists in the system but has no device currently connected.

By default, the Cloud Voice App lists every extension in the groups you are allowed to see, whether each extension is registered or not. This topic shows you how to hide the unregistered ones so the list shows only colleagues whose devices are actually online. Trimming the list is useful in a large organization where many extensions are assigned but rarely connected, since it cuts down on clutter and makes it easier to find people who can actually be reached.

:::note
This is a personal display preference. Changing it only affects what you see in your own Cloud Voice App, and only within the extension groups already visible to you. It does not change any other user's view or add or remove extensions on the system.
:::

## Show or hide unregistered extensions

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice App and open **Preferences > User > Status View**.
2. To keep every extension in view, leave **Show Unregistered Extensions** selected. This is the default.
3. To limit the list to registered extensions only, clear the **Show Unregistered Extensions** checkbox.
4. Click **Save**.

:::tip
If you rely on the status list to see who is online (for example, to transfer calls to available colleagues), clearing **Show Unregistered Extensions** gives you a shorter list of only the people who can currently take a call.
