# Get Email Alerts When Your Password Changes

For extra peace of mind, you can have Cloud Voice email you every time the password on your user account is changed. This is a handy way to catch a change you did not make yourself.

:::note
"User password" here means the password you use to sign in to the Cloud Voice App. This alert does not track changes to your voicemail PIN or your phone's SIP registration credentials.
:::

:::tip
Leaving this alert on is good security practice. If you ever get one of these emails and you did not change your own password, treat it as a warning sign and tell your administrator right away.
:::

## Before you start

Your extension needs a valid email address on file, since that is where the alerts are sent. If you have not added one yet, [set the email address on your extension profile](/pbx/web-client-user-guide/configure-your-extension-profile/) first.

:::caution
Without an email address on your extension, the notification has nowhere to go. You can still tick the checkbox, but no email will arrive until an address is saved on your profile.
:::

## Turn on the alert

1. Sign in to the Cloud Voice App and open **Preferences > Features**.
2. Under **Notifications**, tick **Send email notification when the User Password is changed**.
3. Select **Save**.

:::note
This setting lives under your own preferences, so it only controls alerts for your extension. It does not change the notification settings of any other user.
:::

## What happens next

From now on, any time your user password changes, Cloud Voice sends an email to the address on your extension.
