Test Phone Calls on Microsoft Teams

Once Microsoft Teams is connected to Cloud Voice, run a quick two-way test to confirm the integration works end to end: place an outbound call and answer an inbound one, both directly from Teams. Doing this proves that Teams can reach the outside world through Cloud Voice and that incoming calls land on the right extension before you hand the setup to a user.

Note

This test assumes the Teams integration is already active in Cloud Voice. If calls fail immediately or you see no dialpad, the integration is not fully connected yet: finish the connection steps first, then come back to this page.

Place an outbound call

An outbound call leaves Teams, travels through Cloud Voice, and reaches an external number (for example, a mobile phone). This confirms your Teams user can dial out.

1. In the Teams left navigation bar, select Calls.

2. Choose Make a call.

3. Using the dialpad, type the number you want to reach.

   Note

   The number you dial must match at least one outbound route configured in Cloud Voice. An outbound route is the rule that decides which trunk (phone line to your provider) carries the call and what digits get sent. Include any prefix that route expects. For example, if a route strips a leading 9 before sending the call, you would dial 915880123489 to place a call to 15880123489.

   

   Tip

   For a meaningful test, dial an external number you control, such as your own mobile. That way you can answer it and check audio in both directions: you can hear the other end, and they can hear you.

4. Select Call to connect.

   

Answer an inbound call

An inbound call comes from outside, passes through Cloud Voice, and rings the extension that maps to your Teams user. This confirms the return path works.

When a call reaches your extension, Teams displays a pop-up notification. From there you can choose to accept or decline the call.

Caution

If an inbound call never produces a pop-up, do not assume the phone system is down. First confirm the call is being routed to the correct extension number in Cloud Voice, since a mismatched extension is the most common reason a Teams user hears nothing.
