Caller ID Overview
This topic describes what Caller ID is, differences between all the types of Caller ID defined in IZT Cloud Voice.
What is Caller ID?
Caller ID is a telephone service that transmits a caller's telephone number and name to the called party's device when a call is established.
Caller ID Types
IZT Cloud Voice supports the following types of Caller ID:
Outbound Caller ID
Outbound Caller ID is configured by the user and may be displayed on the called partyβs phone. The outbound caller ID can be set in multiple locations. The system will identify the appropriate caller ID based on the order below:
- Extension outbound caller ID: To set this up, configure the outbound caller ID at the extension level.
- Trunk: If the extension-level Caller ID is set to default, then the system will use the trunk's outbound caller ID.
- Global: If the trunk level is set to default, then the system will use the global outbound caller ID.
For more information, see Customize Outbound Caller IDs.
Inbound Caller ID
Inbound Caller ID refers to a number that will be displayed on an extension user's phone when an external call comes in IZT Cloud Voice. This can be configured to show different formats:
- DID Number: Caller ID based on the DID number.
- Inbound Route: Show the incoming caller ID based on the rules set in the inbound route.
- Trunk: Show the caller ID based on the trunk connected.
For more information, see Reformat Inbound Caller ID based on a Trunk.
Priority of Outbound Caller ID
When making an outbound call, the system first identifies if the call is an emergency call, then sends an outbound caller ID by the following priority order:
- Extension's emergency caller ID
- Trunk emergency caller ID
- Global emergency caller ID
- Extension's outbound caller ID
- Trunk's outbound caller ID
- Global outbound caller ID
Ensure that your emergency caller ID information is accurate to avoid issues during an emergency call.
