π Fax Overview
IZT Cloud Edition allows you to connect your fax machines to the PBX system. You can send and receive faxes on a fax machine, over email, and via FoIP (Fax over IP). This topic provides an overview of these options and describes how to configure them.
T.38 Fax
T.38 is a protocol that enables fax over the Internet and is supported on IZT Cloud Edition. T.38 utilizes VoIP technology to send and receive faxes over the Internet.
T.38 Diagram
Here is the typical fax transmission flow using T.38:

Mechanisms
- A fax machine sends a fax through a T.38 compatible gateway, which acts as an emitting server.
- The fax data is transformed into IP packets using the T.38 protocol, then sent over the internet to the receiving fax gateway.
- The receiving fax gateway reassembles the fax data into the correct format and transmits it to the receiving fax machine.
Fax to Email
You can send faxes to and receive faxes directly by email. With this setup, the PBX detects incoming faxes and converts them into PDF documents before sending them to a specified email address.
Fax Detection
The PBX is designed to detect automatically whether an incoming call is a fax or not. This feature helps to handle faxes more efficiently.
- Fax Tone Detection: The PBX listens for the fax tone.
- Destination Setting: Based on the detection, the PBX redirects the call to the designated fax destination.
Fax over IP (FoIP) Settings
The IP address of the fax server needs to be configured in the PBX for fax transmission over the network. Follow the steps mentioned in "Set up Fax over IP (FoIP)" to implement this setting.
