This topic describes how to configure jitter buffer on IZT Cloud Voice to improve call quality.

Background Information

If you have networking issues like packet loss or packets arriving out of order, you can enable a jitter buffer to improve call quality.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the PBX web portal, go to PBX Settings > Jitter Buffer.
  2. Enable Jitter Buffer.
  3. In the drop-down list, select the desired trunks from Available box to Selected box.
  • The trunks within the corresponding selected trunks will be displayed.
  1. To enable jitter buffer for extensions, select the desired extensions from Available box to Selected box.
  • The received audio on the selected extensions will be buffered.
  1. In the Implementation Option drop-down list, select the appropriate implementation option:
  • Adaptive: Adaptive jitter buffers have a variable size and the packets leaving the jitter buffer have a variable delay that constantly adapts to the network conditions:
  • Adaptive Adjustment Size: Type in the size of the adapting adjustment. This value should be 20 ms.
  • Max Buffer Size (ms): The maximum value of the adaptive jitter buffer. Default is 200 ms.
  • Fixed: Fixed jitter buffers have a constant size and the packets leaving the jitter buffer have a constant delay.
  • Fixed Jitter Buffer Size (ms): The size of the fixed jitter buffer. Default is 50 ms.
  1. Select the appropriate option and click Save and Apply.

The default value for fixed jitter buffer size is 50 ms. The default value for maximum buffer size of adaptive jitter buffer is 200 ms.
