Assign a User Type to a Group Member
Every member of an extension group carries a user type, and that user type decides which features the member is allowed to reach. By choosing the right type for each person, you can hand out the same set of permissions to everyone who does the same job, or tailor access for an individual. This page walks through both approaches.
Assign a built-in user type
Section titled “Assign a built-in user type”Cloud Voice ships with two ready-made user types, Manager and User. Each one comes with its own preset list of permissions, so assigning them is a fast way to grant a common permission set to several members at once.
- Sign in to the PBX (Private Branch Exchange, the phone system that routes your organization’s calls) web portal and go to Extension and Trunk > Extension Group, then open the group you want to edit.
- In the Members section, click the edit icon
next to the member you want to change. - Open the User Type drop-down list and choose Manager or User.
- Click Confirm.
The member now inherits the permissions tied to the type you selected.
Assign a custom user type
Section titled “Assign a custom user type”When a member needs a different mix of permissions than the built-in roles provide, give them the Custom type and pick the exact permissions yourself.
- Sign in to the PBX web portal and go to Extension and Trunk > Extension Group, then open the group you want to edit.
- In the Members section, click the edit icon
next to the member you want to change. - Open the User Type drop-down list and choose Custom.
- Select the checkbox for each permission you want the member to have.
- Click Confirm.
- Click Save and then Apply.
The member’s user type and permissions are updated to your custom selection.
