AutoCLIP Route Overview
AutoCLIP (Auto Calling Line Identification Presentation) is an intelligent call-matching feature in Cloud Voice. When a caller phones your system back, AutoCLIP can connect them directly to the extension that last called them, so the return call reaches the right person the first time. The result is a smoother experience for your customers and a more efficient, professional impression of your business.
How AutoCLIP works
Section titled “How AutoCLIP works”Cloud Voice builds and consults a matching list behind the scenes:
- Whenever an extension user places an outbound call, the system records the details in the AutoCLIP list, including the extension number, the number that was dialed, and the trunk used for the call. (A trunk is the outside line or carrier connection Cloud Voice uses to reach the public phone network.)
- When a call comes back in, Cloud Voice checks the caller’s number against the entries in the AutoCLIP list:
- On a match, the call is sent straight to the extension that originally placed the call, skipping any receptionist or auto attendant.
- With no match, the call follows the destination set on your inbound route as usual.
When to use it
Section titled “When to use it”Consider a team of sales representatives who regularly call customers with offers and follow-ups. Inevitably, some of those customers miss the call and dial back later. Without AutoCLIP, the return call lands on a receptionist or business auto attendant, and neither the customer nor whoever answers knows who originally reached out. The caller ends up stuck trying to track down the right person.
AutoCLIP removes that friction by routing the return call back to the extension that made the original call, so the customer reconnects with the same representative without being passed around.
