Monitor a Parking Number on an IP Phone
When a team relies on directed call parking, you can give each user a dedicated function key that both shows the live status of a parking number and lets them park or retrieve a call from it in a single press. You assign these keys centrally through auto provisioning, then push them to the phone.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”The phone must already be connected to the PBX (Private Branch Exchange, the phone system that routes your calls) and linked to the user’s extension through auto provisioning. If you haven’t done that yet, set it up first:
For background on how central provisioning works, see Auto Provisioning Overview.
Assign the function key
Section titled “Assign the function key”- Sign in to the PBX web portal and go to Extension and Trunk > Extension.
- Open the extension you want to configure:
- For a single user, click the edit icon
next to that extension. - For several users at once, select their checkboxes and click Edit.
- For a single user, click the edit icon
- Open the Function Keys tab.
- Define the key:
- Type: choose Park & Retrieve.
- Value: choose the parking number to monitor.
- Label: optional text that appears next to the key on the phone screen.
- Click Save.
Push the change to the phone
Section titled “Push the change to the phone”If the extension is already tied to a phone, reprovision it so the new key takes effect:
- Go to Auto Provisioning > Phones.
- Click the refresh icon
next to the phone assigned to that extension.
What the user sees
Section titled “What the user sees”The key reflects the parking number’s state in real time through its LED:
- Green: the parking number is free. The user can press the key to park an active call there.
- Red: the parking number is in use. The user can press the key to retrieve the parked call.
