Configure Power Indicator Settings for a Provisioned Phone

Most IP phones (desk phones that connect over your data network) use their power indicator LED (the small light on the phone body) as a notification light. Out of the box, that light blinks whenever a new voicemail arrives or a call goes unanswered. If that behavior does not suit your users, you can turn each notification on or off per phone and push the change out through auto provisioning.

Auto provisioning is the feature that lets the phone system (PBX, short for Private Branch Exchange) configure a phone automatically instead of someone typing settings into the phone by hand. Because the LED setting travels with the rest of the phone’s provisioning template, the phone only picks it up the next time it is provisioned.

Confirm the following before you change the setting:

  1. Sign in to the PBX web portal and open Auto Provisioning > Phones.

  2. Find the phone in the list and click the edit icon next to it.

The portal opens the Phone settings page for the extension tied to that device.

  3. Scroll to the Preference section and set each option to match how you want the LED to behave. The two toggles are independent, so you can enable one and leave the other off:

    • Power LED Notifications for Voicemail: decides whether the power LED flashes when a new voicemail or text message comes in.
    • Power LED Notifications for Missed Calls: decides whether the power LED flashes when a call is missed.
  4. Click Save.

  5. Reprovision the phone so the new setting takes effect:

    b. When the confirmation window appears, click OK.
